TWO tablescape trends

With the weather warming up here in Australia and the festive season approaching, I thought it would be fitting to share with you the two trends I've noticed in Tablescape styling to dress up your dining.

I love gathering with friends and family. Connecting with the people we care about, eating delicious food and having a good belly laugh brings us so much joy. Dressing the table where we're gathering is an expression of that care and joy.

I also believe in dressing the table for every-day dining so that my family and I feel that we're sharing a ritual, not just sitting and eating.

So whatever occasion you're styling a table for, I hope you are inspired by these two trends to style beautiful gatherings.

Food not only connects us at the idyllic dinner table setting with family and friends: but it is also part of our mundane, daily transit to and from work.

TABLESCAPE TREND #1

The first trend I love and want to see around is the Mediterranean alfresco table setting which is loose, casual and colourful, and aligns beautifully with the Australian lifestyle.

My friends at Alex and Trahanans have mastered this trend perfectly; influenced by beautiful Mediterranean summers, Alex and Trahananas source colourful hand-painted plates to serve delicious pasta and traditional Italian food.

They elevate their tablescapes by styling their tables with seasonal table fruit and vegetables.

The Mediterranean dining-table style is perfectly imperfectly, lively and just fresh, ideal for warmer days and longer nights.

TABLESCAPE TREND #2

The second trend I've noticed is the white, classic setting. The polar opposite of the Mediterranean, this trend is formal, highly decorative and buttoned up without being stuffy.

This setting looks beautiful with all-white florals and ornate candles. The introduction of floaty linen tablecloths, instead of starched, introduces softness and layers.

The white classic trend suits an outdoor setting such as a large outdoor gathering such as a wedding (as evidenced in this beautiful example from Laura Bravia) or even Christmas.
